UPDATE: Collision Claims Life of Damascus Teen

Police ask for witnesses of two-car wreck to call Collision Reconstruction Unit.

An 18-year-old Damascus woman was killed Monday morning in a two-car collision at Brink and Ridge Roads, Montgomery County Police say.

Kirsten Danielle Mergner, of the 24600 block of Farmview Lane in Damascus, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Mergner was traveling northbound on Ridge Road at about 5 a.m. in a red 2008 Honda Civic. Police reports say that for unknown reasons, the Honda crossed the center lines of Ridge Road and collided with a red 2006 Ford Explorer traveling southbound, driven by Jill Yvette Gole, 50, of the 12700 block of Roughton Drive in Mount Airy.

Gole was taken to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda with non-life threatening injuries, police say.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating the collision, police say. Conditions were icy, cold and windy this morning, police say. NBC Channel 4 reported that their sources say the crash was believed to be weather related.

Mergner was wearing her seat belt, and it is believed Ms. Gole was not wearing her seat belt, police say.

Police are still investigating the collision and want to speak to witnesses. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.
