Fire at Germantown Condo Ruled Accidental

An electrical short caused the blaze, led to $15,000 worth of damage.

A fire at a Germantown condo Thursday was caused by an electrical short inside the walls of the second floor, investigators determined.

At around 11:40 a.m., Montgomery County Fire & Rescue responded to an empty, two-story townhouse condo at 11424 Appledore Way. It took 55 firefighters 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze, said Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service spokesman Cpt. Oscar Garcia.

Garcia said the fire resulted in $15,000 worth of damage.

There were no reports of injuries. The fire did not spread to adjacent units, though smoke had dissipated to units to the left right and rear of the town house, Garcia said.
