Gaithersburg Man Arrested for Germantown Daycare Thefts

Jason Elliot Thomas, 31, has been arrested for a series of thefts in Germantown.

A 31-year-old Gaithersburg man has been arrested for a series of vehicle thefts outside Kindercare Daycare Center that took place between Dec. 30 and Feb. 24.

Police say Jason Elliot Thomas, 31, of the unit block of County Court in Gaithersburg, is responsible for several thefts from vehicles outside the daycare facility, located at 13230 Clopper Mill Rd. in Germantown, between these dates.

According to a press statement released by police, the "Investigation revealed that parents/guardians would leave their vehicles unlocked while they picked up their children.  Upon returning to their vehicles, they would discover that personal items, including credit cards, were missing.  In several of the incidents, the stolen credit cards were immediately used at nearby stores."

Thomas was identified by a citizen who saw surveillance video released by authorities. He has been charged with several counts of theft under $1,000, several counts of credit card theft and other related charges.

The statement indicates he is being held on a $7,500 bond.
