Utility workers struck a gas line Wednesday in Germantown neighborhood.

At least 36 homes in Germantown were evacuated Wednesday due to a gas leak, leaving 70 people temporarily displaced.

Nearly 45 fire fighters and a hazardous materials team were dispatched to the 11400 block of Tulip Poplar Terrace at around 10:23 a.m., said Cpt. Oscar Garcia, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesman.
