MCFRS: Brush Fire Extinguished Near Damascus Wednesday

Additional firefighters were called in due to extreme heat.

It took extra firefighters to battle a brush fire reported near Damascus on Wednesday, a county fire service spokeswoman said.

The fire was extinguished around 5:30 p.m. at Prices Distillery and Clarksburg roads—near Little Bennett Regional Park, said Beth Anne Nesselt, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman.

Firefighters were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. to the fire, which involved at least five acres. There were no reports of injuries or structural damage, Nesselt said.

"Essentially it was a hay fire," Nesselt said.

Because of the extreme heat conditions, a number of additional units were sent to help the rotation of firefighters battling the blaze.

In all, 25 firefighters were called to the site, Nesselt said.

An ambulance bus was sent to the scene to provide a cooling station and hydration shelter for firefighters working the scene, Nesselt said.
