Teacher Indicted for Sex Offense, Abuse

The case against a Neelsville Middle School teacher charged with inappropriately touching one of his students will proceed in Montgomery County Circuit Court.

Cuyler Jay Cornell, 50, of Stonebridge Court in Germantown, was indicted for two counts of third-degree sexual offense and one count sexually abusing a minor, court records show.

A trial date has not yet been set, said Seth Zucker, a spokesman for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Reginald W. Bours II Esq. was listed as Cornell’s attorney in court records accessed online.

Cornell taught seventh grade English at Neelsville Middle. In February, police and school administrators were notified of “inappropriate contact” between Cornell and a male student that allegedly occurred twice during the summer of 2011. An MCPS spokesman said Cornell was placed on leave as soon as the concerns were raised, .

Police said Cornell was arrested without incident on May 7.
