Police urge community to lock car, garage doors

At least three suspects were caught on tape trying to break into a car in Damascus, the latest development as police investigate a weekend spree of car-related thefts.

Police released the footage Wednesday of three suspects apparently trying to open a vehicle’s door. The thieves targeted the Plantations II neighborhood on Saturday and Sunday night. Police said the suspects stole three bikes, vandalized mailboxes, entered unlocked vehicles and tossed some of the stolen items onto people’s lawns.

There were also reports of a vehicle stolen from the 9600 block of Rustic Farm Court. Police said the owner left the garage door open and the keys to the vehicle on a table in the garage.

The vehicle was later found at Rolling Fork Way and Peanut Mill Drive with a flat tire, scrapes, missing headlights and bumper damage.

Police said the stolen vehicle may have been used to strike eight mailboxes on Woodfield Road, based on a car part found at the scene.
