Spokesman: Suspect returned to Arlington apartment while police were on scene.

ARLINGTON, VA — A Gaithersburg man accused of robbing his girlfriend was arrested on burglary charges when he returned to her Arlington apartment after the alleged incident, Arlington County police said.

Daryl Villanueva, 25, is being held without bail.

Police alleged that at around 2 a.m. Friday Villanueva kicked in his girlfriend's apartment door, assaulted her and stole an unidentified amount of cash from her purse, according to police.

Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said makeup and a clutch wallet were also reported missing.

The woman, whom investigators have not identified, called police. Villanueva reportedly returned to the residence after police arrived and was taken into custody without incident, according to Sternbeck.

Sternbeck said the woman suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment.
