UPDATE: Police Identify Man Killed by Train

Montgomery County Police are investigating the death

Updated: 4:35 p.m. — Police have identified the man struck and killed by a northbound MARC train yesterday as 51-year-old Ricardo Antonio Levia Aldana, of the 16100 block of Crabbs Branch Way in Derwood.

They believe his death was an accident.

The intial investigation revealed that around 5:30 yesterday Alanda was trying to cross the tracks from south to north. He waited for a CSX train to pass on the eastbound track, then continued to cross.

He was immediately struck by a westbound MARC train on the parallel track, police said.

Aldana was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

His body was then taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Updated 9:16 p.m. — Service on the MARC train's Brunswick Line has been restored, following the death of a person struck by a commuter train in Gaithersburg on Friday, said Terry Owens, a Maryland Transit Administration spokesman.

Montgomery County Police said the incident happened at 5:34 p.m. along North Frederick Avenue, near West Diamond Avenue. Police are investigating the death and could not confirm the person's identity.

The Brunswick Line travels from Washington, D.C., to Martinsburg, W.Va., with service that slices through Germantown and Gaithersburg.

Owens said passengers were given the option to catch a free shuttle bus, make their own arrangements to get home or remain on the train until serivice resumed.

Owens said about 150 to 175 passengers got off the train.

 

Original — A person was struck and killed by a MARC train traveling through Olde Towne Gaithersburg during the Friday commute, according to Montgomery County Police.

Police said the incident happened at 5:34 p.m. along North Frederick Avenue, near West Diamond Avenue.  According to the Maryland Transit Authority, the train was on the Brunswick Line — which stops in Germantown — and was headed toward Frederick, Md.

Police could not confirm the person’s identity, but said the information would be released after family members were notified. 

Police said the circumstances of this event remain under investigation.
