Police arrest Germantown man for stabbing, robbing an 83-year-old

Montgomery County Police arrested a Germantown man Friday for stabbing a 83-year-old man and taking his jacket.

 Steven James, 41, of Germantown, was charged with attempted robbery, and first- and second-degree assault.

 Capt. Luther T. Reynolds, commander of the 5th police district, said police were dispatched to the 13000 block of Devantry Way in Germantown, at around 11:15 a.m. Friday, April 15, for reports of a stabbing.

 According to records from Montgomery County Circuit Court, James, who had a knife, placed the victim in chokehold, knocked him to the ground, and said, “give me your jacket.” The victim suffered severe cuts to his left hand during the scuffle and was taken to Germantown Emergency Center.

 Luther said James took the victim’s jacket and fled the scene.

 Witnesses saw James speed off in a green Chrysler Pacifica with missing hubcaps, according to court records. Police used the witnesses’ descriptions to apprehended James at around 11:30 a.m. at a Shell Station a mile away from the robbery.

 James was held at Montgomery County Detention Center in lieu of $200,000 bond.

 A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday, May 13.
