Police: Germantown Dad Catches Daughter's Boyfriend With Pipe Bombs

The 19-year-old told police he got the idea by watching YouTube.

The case against a Chevy Chase 19-year-old will proceed to Montgomery County Circuit Court in Rockville after his girlfriend's father caught him with two alleged pipe bombs in Germantown.

Kyle G. Druckemiller, 19, was indicted on two counts of manufacturing and possessing destructive devices, according to a statement from the State’s Attorney’s Office.

A hearing was set for May 10, according to court records accessed online. If convicted, Druckemiller could face up to 25 years in jail and a $250,000 fine.

The charges stem from a string of incidents in Germantown on April 12.

Druckemiller was visiting his girlfriend when her dad found what appeared to be two pipe bombs in his duffel bag and called police, according to a statement of charges obtained by Patch.

According to court records, police found two pipes, alligator clips, a 9-volt battery, two timers and an “improvised” detonator—remnants of a test of a bomb Druckemiller claims he set off in South Carolina in 2012, according to the court’s account of the suspect's interview with police.

According to the court records: “The explosion blew the caps off the pipe with pieces barely missing his head.”

Druckemiller had made an alleged second bomb but didn’t set it off, according to the court records, “because he was scared.”

He claimed the pipe bomb and the bomb-making supplies had been in his bag ever since, according to the documents.

He reportedly told police that he got the idea to build the bombs by watching YouTube.
