Girl transported to Children's National Medical Center and survived the night, died Monday morning

An 11-month old girl from Germantown died early Monday morning after efforts to revive her from a Sunday afternoon drowning incident were unsuccessful.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue first responded to the girl's home, in the 18000 block of Cottage Garden Drive in Germantown, around 3 p.m. Sunday. Family members told crews they found the girl unresponsive after she was briefly left in the bathtub unattended, Police said.

Police are still investigating whether charges will be filed against the family, a spokeswoman said on Monday.

Neighbors had begun lifesaving efforts on the girl when rescue crews arrived. Fire and rescue teams found the girl unconscious and unresponsive, Fire Capt. Oscar Garcia said. The teams took over those efforts as they transported the girl to a local hospital.

The girl was stabilized at the hospital, Garcia said. Later, the girl was taken to Children’s National Medical Center. The girl died at the center around 5:50 a.m. Monday.
