Teacher Accused of Touching Student Due in Court Friday

Neelsville Middle School teacher charged with third-degree sexual offense; preliminary hearing is scheduled Friday

A seventh grade English teacher who allegedly touched one of his students inappropriately is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Friday in Montgomery County District Court.

Cuyler Jay Cornell, a teacher at , has been charged with two counts of third-degree sexual offense and sexually abusing a minor.

Cornell, 50, of Stonebridge Court in Germantown, was arrested without incident on May 7, according to police. Reginald W. Bours II Esq., is listed as Cornell’s attorney, according to online court records.

In February, police and school administrators were notified of “inappropriate contact” between Cornell and the student. Police allege the inappropriate contact occurred twice during the summer of 2011.

A MCPS spokesman said the student was a 14-year-old male; Cornell was placed on leave as soon as the concerns were raised, .
