Sex Abuse Trial Scheduled to Start Tuesday For Germantown Teacher

Neelsvile Middle School teacher was indicted on two counts of third-degree sexual offense and one count sexually abusing a minor.

The trial is set to begin Tuesday for a Neelsville Middle School teacher accused of inappropriately touching one of his students.

Cuyler Jay Cornell, 51, of Stonebridge Court in Germantown, was indicted on two counts of third-degree sexual offense and one count of sexually abusing a minor, court records show.

Cornell, a seventh grade English teacher, had worked for MCPS since 1985 and had been at Neelsville since 2010, Patch has reported.

In February, police and school administrators were notified of alleged “inappropriate contact” between Cornell and a male student during the summer of 2011. An MCPS spokesman said Cornell was placed on leave as soon as the concerns were raised. 

Police said Cornell was arrested without incident on May 7.
