UPDATE: Fire Officials Detonate Suspicious Bag at M&T Bank

Unattended bag was found outside M&T Bank on Middlebrook Road.

(Updated 2 p.m.) Deemed suspicious, an unattended bag found outside M&T Bank in Germantown was detonated by fire officials Friday afternoon, Montgomery County Police Spokeswoman Rebecca Innocenti said.

Fire officials detonated the bag at around 1:50 p.m., according to Innocenti. Innocenti said investigators determined the bag "did not pose a threat."

At around 11:30 a.m., fire and police were notified of a red bag left outside an emergency exit and deemed it suspcisious. Staff and customers were evacuated from the bank as a precaution.

(Original) Fire officials and police are investigating a suspicious package found outside M&T Bank in Germantown.

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Spokesman Cpt. Oscar Garcia said fire marshals on scene did not have any indication that there was a threat associated with the package.

The bank, at 12914 Middlebrook Rd., has been evacuated as a precaution. Streets around the bank remained open, Garcia said.

At around 11:27 a.m., fire and police were notified of a red bag left outside the bank’s emergency exit, according to Montgomery County Police Officer Rebecca Innocenti.

Further details weren’t immediately available. As of 12:30 p.m., fire marshals were still investigating the scene.
