Budget Vote: County Council May Answer a $4.4 Billion Question Today

The Montgomery County Council is expected to reach a tentative agreement on the 2012 operating budget during a work session.

A straw vote today could offer a glimpse of what Montgomery County programs will be cut and which ones will be funded next year.

 The Montgomery County Council is expected to reach a tentative agreement on the 2012 operating budget during a work session  9:30 a.m. today in Rockville.

 A formal vote will be held May 26.

The $4.4 billion operating budget proposed by County Executive Isaiah Leggett attempts to close a $300 million gap by slashing 216 county jobs, tapping county employees to bear more of the cost of their benefits and rejecting the school system's request for more county aid, Patch reported March 15, when the budget was unveiled.
