County Council Pay Raise Approved

Pay hike would be phased in over the course of four years, The Washington Post reports.

Montgomery County Council members who take office after the 2014 elections will be paid more money.

The county council on Tuesday approved a pay raise of 17.5 percent pay raise that would take effect December 2014 and would be phased in over the course of four years—a move meant to deflect criticism from constituents, The Washington Post reports.

A council-appointed compensation committee recommended increasing council pay from $106,394 to $125, 000, but the Council approved an amendment submitted by Council President Nancy Navarro that would lower council pay to $113,320, The Post reports.
