On the Agenda: Germantown Town Center May Be CCT Pedestrian-Friendly Zone

On Thursday, Montgomery County Planning staff will present possible sites to designate as bike and pedestrian friendly zones along the massive countywide transit project known as the Corridor Cities Transitway.

Germantown Town Center is on a list of places that could be designated as bike and pedestrian friendly zones along the Corridor Cities Transitway, a proposed 15-mile corridor from Clarksburg to the Shady Grove Metrorail station.

During the Montgomery County Planning Board’s regular meeting Thursday, staff is expected to present possible places along the massive transit network that could be labeled Bicycle Pedestrian Priority Areas.

Shady Grove Metro Station, Clarksburg Town Center and Damascus Town Center were also on the list of possible zones. The full list is available at the Planning Board’s website.

If the board agrees on the zones, the State Highway Administration would have to work with the planning staff on draft boundaries. The majority of the transit routes are on state roads, planning board records show.

The Maryland Department of Transportation estimates capital costs for the 15-mile CCT were at around $828 million.
