Upcounty Citizens Advisory Board Reschedules July Meeting

Board members said it was too hard to reach full attendance in the summer.

The Upcounty Citizens Advisory Board has postponed its July meeting and planning retreat until September.

Board members suggested moving the date back because it was difficult to reach full attendance in the summer, said Catherine Matthews, director of the Upcounty Regional Services Center.

The 20-member board, which represents 30,000 residents in the area north of Shady Grove Road, advises the director of the Upcounty Regional Services Center, the County Executive and County Council on various issues. Members serve three-year terms without pay and attend monthly meetings at the center in Germantown.

The board recently elected new officers. They are: Juan Cardenas (Gaithersburg), chairman; Matthew Leakan (Germantown), first vice-chair; Cherian Eapen (Clarksburg), second vice-chair.

Matthews said there were seven board vacancies to fill, with three members expected to reapply. She said she expects the appointments will be confirmed and announced soon.
