WaPo: Adventist Negotiating Deal to Sell 40 Acres in Clarksburg

The land was part of the site proposed for Clarksburg Hospital, a bid it lost to Holy Cross

Shopping center developers are eying 40 acres of Clarksburg land Adventist HealthCare hopes to sell, The Washington Post reports.

The story named Simon Property Group as a likely buyer, with Fairfax, VA-based Peterson Cos. listed as a competitor.

The land for sale was part of the 120 acres Adventist had hoped would become Clarksburg Hospital, serving residents Upcounty, The Post reports.

Ultimately, Maryland Health Care Commission wound up approving Holy Cross Hospital’s plans to build in Germantown, Patch has reported.

Montgomery County Councilman Craig Rice—who was expected to hear a presentation from Simon representatives Wednesday—told The Post that he was supportive of more shopping options Upcounty but said there needed to be synergy, that it wasn’t OK “to just throw retail somewhere.”
