NO Gas Tax Hike

Increasing Maryland's Gas Tax so that it twice that of Virginia will surely drive Maryland jobs to Virginia.  One cannot be for Jobs and then want to place a large commuter gas tax hike on our hardest working citizens---those going to their jobs.

Spending on transportation has not increased in Maryland over the past 6 years because the transportation has been raided to the tune of $1 billion dollars.  The money was not spent on transportation after voters were told that it would be.

We must call our state legislators at 301-858-3000 to tell them NO Gas Tax Hike. The Washington Post called the gas tax hike, "the most unpopular idea of the year."

Gas Tax Garagiola was the lead sponsor of the gas tax hike last year when I testified against it in Annapolis.  He was the lead sponsor of the Transportation Commission bill and had himself appointed as one of only two legislative members.  The Commission is calling for a massive gas tax hike.  And he is a member of START, a committee largely run  by the group that wants funding for the Bakltimore Metro.

If the gas tax is increased, a shell game will be played.  Sales tax money and corporate tax money that is being spent on transportation will be spent on something else.

People in the new Sixth Congressional District drive long distances to their jobs and elsewhere.  They will be hard hit in tough economic times by a gas tax hike.
