Basketball: Seneca Valley, Northwest Girls Advance to Quarterfinals

Germantown girls' teams advance in playoffs; season ends for Northwest, Seneca Valley boys.

Boys’ Varsity Basketball

In the 4A West division, Northwest’s postseason berth ended with a 52-44 loss to Quince Orchard, whose next opponent is regional division leader Magruder.

Third-ranked Clarksburg comes off its bye to face No. 11 seed Gaithersburg, a team looking to parlay its defeat of sixth-ranked Kennedy (59-49) into another victory.

In the 3A West division, Seneca Valley Eagles fell to Damascus (70-62). In order to stay alive, Damascus (No. 9) must beat the division’s top team, South Hagerstown, on Tuesday.

Girls’ Varsity Basketball

In the 4A West division, Northwest (No. 2) comes off a bye to face Wooton on Monday night. Wooton, ranked seventh, advances with a win against Richard Montgomery 57-51.

Clarksburg (No. 6) fell to 11th seed Kennedy (62-37).

In the 3A West division, the Seneca Valley Eagles (No. 4) advance after defeating Einstein 38-35. Tonight the Eagles head to Western Maryland to face South Hagerstown (No. 5).

For the girls, 3A West division leader Damascus comes off a bye to face Watkins Mill (No. 9) tonight. Watkins Mill advances with a fresh victory against Thomas Johnson (63-51).
