Board Awards $9 Million for Bioscience Center Work

$88 million Bioscience Education Center will anchor the science and technology park at Montgomery College's Germantown campus.

Montgomery College Board of Trustees authorized a $9 million contract for the construction of the Bioscience Education Center at its Germantown campus.

Kinsley Construction, Inc., which is based in Timonium, Md., was awarded the contract over Ross Contracting, Inc., and Flippo Construction Company Inc., which issued a no bid response, said spokeswoman Elizabeth Homan.

The board approved the bid during its Oct. 24 meeting, but Homan said the authorization is contingent on Maryland Department of General Services approval.

The is a $88 million facility that is expected to anchor the college's science technology park. The college plans to spend $5 million in 2013 on the center as part of its six-year construction spending plan, which includes an additional $15 million in 2014.

The board approved its capital improvements plan during its Nov. 21 meeting. Other major spending projects for Germantown in the next six years include $39 million for Science and Applied Studies and $92 million for its Student Services Center.
