Board of Education Selects Joshua P. Starr as Next MCPS Superintendent

Joshua P. Starr is expected to begin July 1, 2011.

The Montgomery County Board of Education unanimously approved Monday the conditional appointment of  Joshua P. Starr as superintendent.

Starr is expected to begin as Montgomery County's superintendent July 1, 2011, pending final negotiations for employment and approval by the state superintendent of schools. 

Starr comes from Stamford (Conn.) Public School system, where has been superintendent since 2005, according to a press release.

Starr began his career as a teacher in 1993, as a special education teacher in the New York City Public Schools working with severely emotionally disturbed adolescents. He has also served in administrative roles in Plainfield, N.J., and Freeport, N.Y.

Starr holds a doctorate in administration and social policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
