Germantown Resident Enrolls at Heidelberg
Cristian Hernandez of Germantown, has enrolled at Heidelberg University for the fall semester, for the 2012-13 academic year beginning Aug. 27, University officials announced.

Hernandez is among a group that ranks as the eighth largest class of new and transfer students to enter Heidelberg, which is affiliated with the United Church of Christ.

Maryland Students Invited to Apply for Volunteer Awards 
Now through Nov. 6, Maryland students in grades 5-12 who have volunteered in the past 12 months are invited to apply for 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.

Maryland's top youth volunteers of 2012 were Saanya Ali, 16, of Potomac, and Loranika Sharma, 12, of Waldorf, MD. As State Honorees, Saanya and Loranika received $1,000 awards, engraved silver medallions and all-expense-paid trips to Washington.

The awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), are granted annually to recognize middle and high school students for helping the less fortunate, promoting health and safety, protecting the environment, or volunteering in other ways.
