Essay Contest & One Time Book Club

FROM SVHS: All students, parents and staff are invited to join in reading Romiette and Julio and joining in a discussion on February 16.  Books are now available in the Media Center.  The book is based on the relationship between two teens, one African American and one Hispanic, and the threats and disapproval they face.  This book discussion is sponsored by the PTSA Take Your Family to School Week and the Twenty-Second National African American Read-In.   Everyone is invited to participate.

In celebration of Black History Month and Take Your Family to School Week, the PTSA is sponsoring an essay contest.  The theme is African Americans and the Civil War.  Information was handed out through English classes.  Entries are due February 7.  The winner will receive $50 and two runners up will each receive $25.  All SVHS students are invited to participate.

Information on both these activities can be found at http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/senecavalleyhs/newsframeset.htm
