Germantown Elementary School Receives ‘Green Ribbon’ Award From U.S. Department of Education

Cedar Grove Elementary School was honored Tuesday by Montgomery County Public Schools Board of Education.

It may not be easy being green, but the folks at Cedar Grove Elementary School found out certainly has its rewards.

Cedar Grove, at 24001 Ridge Rd, Germantown, received the Green Ribbon award from U.S. Department of Education. The honor is bestowed upon schools across the country that have adopted environmentally friendly practices—from making their building’s greener to getting students and staff to be more environmentally conscious.

Cedar Grove was nominated by Maryland’s Superintendent of Schools, Lillian M. Lowery in February, according to USDE records.

Summit Hall Elementary, a Title 1 school in Gaithersburg, was also one of this year’s Green Ribbon award recipients.

Cedar Grove and Summit Hall were honored Tuesday in Rockville during the board of education’s meeting Tuesday.
