SHA: Icy Roads Could Cause Downed Trees, Schools Closed

Montgomery County Public Schools are Closed today due to emergency weather conditions.

Despite Monday's holiday, crews worked late last night and this morning treating the highways with salt to fight last night's wintry mix. Due to the emergency winter weather conditions, all Montgomery County Schools are closed today. 

According to Kellie Boulware of the Maryland State Highway Administration, freezing temperatures are making conditions worse. SHA said maintenance crews will contintue to salt the roads until temperatures rise and conditions improve, as they expect possible down trees and power outages. 

So far, two accidents have been reported on the roadways, one on the inner loop of I-495 at the I-270 spur and another on MD 27 north at Tune Street. Use caution during your morning commute, and don't forget to check out our .
