Proposal Creates Nonprofit to Manage Germantown Science Hub

Montgomery College's Board of Trustees is expected to vote on the proposal tonight.

Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard has asked the college’s Board of Trustees to authorize the creation of a nonprofit foundation for the Science and Technology Park at its Germantown campus.

The college’s board of trustees is expected to vote on the proposal tonight, Monday Sept. 19, during its regular meeting 7:30 at Montgomery College in Rockville.

Under the proposal, the foundation would manage and operate the Science and Technology Park on behalf of Montgomery College and would be distinct from the college’s other nonprofit fundraising arm, Montgomery College Foundation Inc.

The Science and Technology Park is a work-in-progress development at the Germantown campus and is intended to offer life sciences education, training and research. The college recently broke ground on a Bioscience Education Center, which is scheduled to open in the science park by the end of 2013.

The college has also entered into an agreement with Holy Cross Hospital, which is expected to be the science park’s anchor tenant. Pending site plan approval from the Montgomery County Planning Board, construction would begin in the fall and would be completed in the first half of 2014, Patch reported in April.
