Basketball Playoffs: Northwest, Seneca Valley Girls Rank High

Northwest girls enter as No. 2 seed; Seneca Valley girls rank 4th; boys teams rank 8th

The dash for the state championship begins Friday for varsity high school hoops. It’s playoff time, and the brakets are out. Here’s where the boys’ and girls’ teams at Northwest and Seneca Valley stand, according to the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Assocation:

The Boys

Northwest is the No. 8 seed in the 4A West division and will play Quince Orchard (No. 9) at home Friday.  If Jaguars win, they’ll face No. 1 seed  Magruder on Sunday, Feb. 28.

In the 3A West division, Seneca Valley is also ranked 8th. The Eagles play No. 9 Damascus at home Friday. If Seneca Valley wins, the Eagles will head west to face No. 1 seed, the South Hagerstown Hubs.

The Girls

As the No. 2 seed in the 4A West division, Northwest has a bye this week and will play the winner of Friday’s Wooton (No. 7)-Richard Montgomery (No. 10). Gaithersburg is the 4A West division leader.

In 3A West play, Seneca Valley — ranked fourth — will welcome Einstein (No. 13) in the Eagles’s gym on Friday. If Seneca wins, they’ll advance to a Monday, Feb. 27, game against the victors of the South Hagerstown (No. 5)-Tuscarora (No. 12) game.
