Local Soccer Player Makes Olympic Team

D.C. United Women defender Becky Sauerbrunn will leave Maryland SoccerPlex for the Summer Games in London.

D.C. United Women defender Rebecca “Becky” Sauerbrunn has made the U.S. Olympic soccer team, the local team’s spokesman announced.

U.S. Soccer unveiled its women's Olylmpic Team roster Sunday.

Sauerbrunn, 26, will join a veteran cast of players — 11 are returning from the 2008 Bejing Olympics  — as the team seeks its third consecutive gold medal.

A D.C. United Women spokesman said Sauerbrunn could play 30-minute stretches and would follow Rachel Buehler and Christie Rampone on the depth chart.
