Scoot for Scooter 5K and 1 mile fun run

2nd Annual "Scoot for Scooter" 5K & 1Mile Walk/Run to be held at Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, MD on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 10 a.m. (rain or shine) to honor Dave "Scooter" Scaggs and the legacy he has created throughout his career as a coach, teacher and mentor. At age 61, Dave was diagnosed with an early-onset, aggressive form of dementia, called Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), which affects personality, social behavior, reasoning, language and emotions. Many Germantown residents are participating in this event to support Steve Gebhardt, who is also aflicted with this disease. Together with other families affected with FTD, we are raising awareness and funds to benefit the Association for Frontotemporal Dementia.

Race fees are $30 for adults, $15 for ages 8-18, and free for kids age 7 and under. Register before April 27th and receive a $5 discount and receive a free t-shirt. Race management services will be provided by Montgomery County Road Runners. There will be awards given for the top finishers. There will also be a Kid’s Fun Run, other kids activities, raffles, and concession stand food and drinks. “Last year, we made such a difference in the lives of so many people faced with FTD. Help us to make the Second Annual Scoot for Scooter even bigger and better than last year,” said JD Scaggs, Dave’s son and Co-Coordinator of Scoot for Scooter.
