Northwest, Seneca Valley Enter Playoffs
Softball, lacrosse playoffs begin today; baseball Friday
Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association regional playoff brackets for softball, lacrosse and baseball have been announced. The following is a look at matchups for teams from Northwest and Seneca Valley.
Baseball
Northwest (9-7) received the No. 10 seed in the 4A West Region and will travel to face No. 7 Bethesda-Chevy Chase (12-7) at 4 p.m. Friday. the regular season game between the teams, 5-1, on March 29 at B-CC. Jaguars pitcher Austin Steele took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and finished with a complete game one-hitter. The winner will face No. 2 Whitman, which earned a first-round bye.

Seneca Valley (9-8) received the No. 8 seed in the 3A West Region and will host No. 9 Kennedy at 4 p.m. Friday. The winner will travel to face No. 1 Quince Orchard, which earned a first-round bye.

Softball
No. 8 Northwest (9-7) and No. 9 Bethesda-Chevy Chase (3-13) are comparable in seeds, but that’s about it. While the random draw placed the teams one seed apart, the Jaguars defeated B-CC 23-0 in five innings during their regular season meeting on March 28 in Bethesda. Sophomore Stephanie since 2001. Northwest will host B-CC at 4 p.m. today in the opening round of the 4A West Regional playoffs, with the winner advancing to face No. 1 Sherwood in the quarterfinals.
Seneca Valley (12-4) is the No. 4 seed in the 3A West Region and will host No. 13 Clarksburg (10-5) today. The Screaming Eagles defeated Clarksburg 8-3 on Tuesday. The winner will face either No. 5 Watkins Mill or No. 12 Frederick in the quarterfinals.
Boys lacrosse
Northwest (4-8) received the No. 11 seed in the 4A-3A North Region and will travel to face No. 6 Thomas Johnson at 6:30 p.m. today in Frederick, Md. The Jaguars won three of their final four games after a 1-7 start. The winner of Northwest and TJ will face No. 3 Westminster in the quarterfinals.
Seneca Valley received the No. 4 seed in the 3A-2A West Region and will host No. 13 Northwood at 7 p.m. today. The winner will face either No. 5 Rockville or No. 12 Wheaton in the quarterfinals.
Girls lacrosse
Northwest (7-5) is the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Magruder in the quarterfinals of the 4A-3A North Regional playoffs at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams received a first-round bye. The winner will face either No. 1 Westminster, No. 8 Urbana or No. 9 Thomas Johnson in the semifinals.
Seneca Valley is the No. 9 seed and will travel to face No. 8 South Hagerstown in the opening round of the 3A-2A West Regional playoffs. The winner will face No. 1 Middletown in the quarterfinals.
