Germantown Teens Will Golf in Israel

Joey and Zach Burkinshaw qualified for the 19th Maccabiah Games

High school golfers from Germantown qualified for a tournament in Israel, organizers announced Thursday. 

Joseph “Joey” Burkinshaw, a senior at , will represent the United States at the 19th Maccabiah Games in Israel in July 2013.  Burkinshaw will be competing in the Junior Boys’ Division.

His brother, Zachary “Zach” Burkinshaw, a sophomore at Northwest, is the team’s first alternate.

Maccabi USA is a Jewish nonprofit organization that offers athletic, cultural and educational programs. 

The Burkinshaw boys’ performance at a three-day, 54-hole stroke play National Qualifying Tournament in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, during mid-July secured their spots in the tournament, organizers said.

The Burkinshaws will be among 24 athletes come from 12 states, organizers said.
