(UPDATED) July Fourth: Where to See Fireworks Pop

Montgomery County and local cities host seven Independence Day celebrations.

(Updated July 2) Montgomery County has canceled its popular 4th of July fireworks displays and festivities, county officials announced Monday evening.

Germantown Glory fireworks at the Maryland SoccerPlex in the South Germantown Recreational Park and The Mid-County Sparkles! Fireworks display at Einstein High School in Kensington had been planned for Wednesday.

The events will not be rescheduled, County Recreation Department spokeswoman Judy Stiles said.

Montgomery County will host two fireworks displays this year, Germantown Glory and Mid-County Sparkles.

Germantown Glory will kick off at 7 p.m. at the with a concert by Bobby and the Believers. Fireworks will follow at approximately 9:15 p.m. The location will have free parking.

Mid-County Sparkles will begin with a concert by Quiet Fire Soul at 7:30 p.m. at in Kensington. Fireworks will follow at approximately 9:15 p.m. No on-site parking will be available, but a shuttle will pick up passengers from Westfield Wheaton Metro Parking Garage beginning at 6:15 p.m.

In addition to the county shows, Gaithersburg, Rockville and Takoma Park and Poolesville will also host fireworks displays.

Of course, if you’re looking for a more spectacular spectacle, you could always brave the crowds and head into D.C. for the national celebration.
