Pet of the Week: Remy and her puppies

Featured animals are examples of the variety available at the Montgomery County Humane Society shelter and may not be available as of publication date.

Name: Remy AND her eight surviving 2-1/2-week-old puppies
A 5-year-old female pit bull, with dark brindle
Tag: #106

Remy and her puppies must be fostered as an entire family, to an approved foster. Please visit http://mchumane.org/fosterprogram.shtml if you are not already an MCHS-approved foster and are interested in becoming one to help out this wonderful family.  A generous donor has started a small fund to assist with their care.

Remy is an absolute love – very friendly, very sweet, very open to letting her puppies be picked up and handled without complaint, as you can see in this picture.

According to her former owner, who is moving, Remy is good with children of every age (2, 9 and 11 years old), is great with other dogs, but has never been around cats.  She’s fully housetrained and crate-trained.  She knows the basic commands: “sit,” “come” and “lie down.”  She is left alone in the house for 8 to 9 hours every day without any trouble.  A calm but active girl, Remy likes to play fetch and tug-of-war.  Remy enjoys riding in the car, being brushed and sleeping on furniture. She’s very friendly toward strangers, although she’d benefit from learning not to jump on people.

Our evaluator observed that while walking in and out of the kennel, Remy ignored the other dogs that were barking.  In the dog yard, she did not react to the other dogs and wagged her tail (happily) at all the handlers.  Once she eliminated, she seemed in a hurry to return to her puppies.  What a good mama!
