Seneca Valley Senior Wins Essay Contest

Oran Lichtman received a cash prize for his essay about environmental sustainability in Germantown.

Seneca Valley High School senior Oran Lichtman won first place in an essay contest hosted by WeGreen USA, a nonprofit community action group.

Lichtman received a $100 cash prize and received a citation from Md. Sen. Karen Montgomery (D, Dist. 14-Montgomery County). Montgomery County Councilmember Valerie Ervin and WeGreen USA President Neeta Dat presented him with a plaque during an award ceremony March 29 at the East County Regional Services Center.

The 2012 essay contest was open to all Montgomery County high school students and aspired to promote discussions about achieving a more environmentally sustainable communities.

The winning essay was an "inspiring, innovative, well written composition" about environmental sustainability in Germantown, organizers wrote in a press release. Lichtman's essay will be published on WeGreen USA’s website.
