One of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings called one of his uncles in Montgomery Village on Thursday night to ask forgiveness, USA Today reported. Tamerlan Tsarnaev—the 26-year-old identified by police as the dead Boston bombing suspect—spoke with his uncle, Alvi Tsarni, for the first time in more than two years, according to the report. "He said, 'I love you and forgive me,'" Alvi Tsarni said, according to the report. On Friday morning, FBI agents and Montgomery County police went to the Montgomery Village home of Ruslan Tsarni, another uncle of the suspects. Drivers in Maryland still using hand-held mobile devices on the road should be prepared to either make the move to hands free or simply keep their cell phones put away. The Maryland Senate voted 40-6 Monday to approve a bill that makes the use of hand-held electronic devices while behind the wheel a "primary offense," The Baltimore Sun reported. Currently, drivers in Maryland can only be cited for using a cell phone if an officer pulls them over for committing another offense — such as speeding. The Gaithersburg-based biotech company will receive a boost from AstraZeneca consolidation, The Washington Post reports.
Gaithersburg-based biotech company MedImmune will be adding 300 new jobs as part of an international consolidation of parent company AstraZeneca's global research and development operations, The Washington Post reported. "Employees relocating from AstraZeneca’s U.S. headquarters in Wilmington and other locations will be in Gaithersburg by the end of 2015," The Gazette reported. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service units were dispatched to the Montgomery Village area of Gaithersburg Thursday afternoon.
An adult female required medical attention for possible smoke inhalation after a microwave caught fire in the Montgomery Village area of Gaithersburg Thursday afternoon, according to a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson. MCFRS units were dispatched just after 2 p.m. to a house in the 20300 block of Oyster Bay Terrace for the report of a fire, MCFRS spokesperson Beth Anne Nesselt told Patch. Officials remained on scene checking for extension of the fire, Nesselt said. No other injuries were reported. A 37-year-old North Potomac man was critically injured in a four-vehicle crash on Clopper Road in Gaithersburg Friday that involved a Montgomery County Public Schools bus, police said. About 1:15 p.m., Kent Behzad Karimi, of the unit block of Polk Court in North Potomac, was stopped in his black 2012 Chevrolet Equinox in the northbound lanes of Clopper Road, waiting to make a left turn into the driveway of Seneca Creek State Park, police said in a statement. Karimi's vehicle was struck from behind by a white 2011 Chevrolet Express van, driven by Jose J. Marez, 39, of the 2200 block of Regina Drive in Clarksburg, police said. A crash involving a county school bus and several vehicles on Friday afternoon in Gaithersburg sent 10 people to the hospital, including one with life-threatening injuries, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said. The school bus was carrying seven students from Germantown's Clopper Mill Elementary School, said Dana Tofig, a Montgomery County Public Schools spokesman. Seven children and two adults were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Assistant Chief Scott Graham, a county Fire and Rescue Service spokesman, tweeted. A 51-year-old Anne Arundel County man was arrested Tuesday at a New York airport in connection with the killing of a Frederick County man who was found dead in the trunk of his car near the Shady Grove Metro station in December, Maryland State Police announced in a press release. Michael A. Stahlnecker, of the 1700 block of Fallsway Drive in Crofton, is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/violent crime, police said.
