A 52-year-old Germantown man was arrested for 10 commercial robberies and two street robberies in Montgomery County.
A Germantown man suspected of 10 commercial robberies and two street robberies in Montgomery County — including four in the Gaithersburg area — was arrested during a traffic stop in Gaithersburg Feb. 17, Montgomery County police announced Wednesday. Duane James, 52, of the 18600 block of Mustard Seed Court, was charged with two counts of armed robbery, having a handgun in a vehicle and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, police said. After his arrest, James was charged with nine additional armed robbery charges and three first-degree assault charges. Gaithersburg Patch: Police are investigating the death of Cesar Smith, 45, of Gaithersburg, as a homicide
UPDATED—A dead man found in a Gaithersburg apartment early Monday after an apparent home invasion has been identified as Cesar Smith, 45, of Gaithersburg, Gaithersburg Patch reports. Montgomery County police said detectives are investigating the death as a homicide. The cause of death was "undetermined," police said in a news release. A man shot Tuesday in Gaithersburg is in critical but stable condition, Gaithersburg Police officer Dan Lane told Gaithersburg Patch. At around 5 p.m., Gaithersburg and Montgomery County police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1000 block of West Side Drive, where they found a man on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, Gaithersburg Patch has reported. Justin Tirell Anderson, 25, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and a felony gun violation, according to court records accessed online. Anderson is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 30, the court records show. A man responsible for breaking into businesses from Gaithersburg to Silver Spring and taking laptops, iPads and other electronics has been sentenced to 75 years in prison, WUSA 9 reported. Paul Jerome Holt, 34, was responsible for at least nine burglaries, and took over $80,000 worth of equipment, according to the report. Holt was caught on surveillance video during one of the burglaries using an umbrella to conceal his face. "From Urban Nation to Mars Symbioscience to a dentist office, Mr. Holt preyed upon unsuspecting people who thought their personal or business property to be safe," John J. A 21-year-old woman was raped July 9 in Green Farm Conservation Park, police say.
Montgomery County Police released a sketch Monday of a possible suspect in a July 9 rape in the Laytonsville area of Gaithersburg. Police said they were called to Green Farm Conservation Park, located at 8711 Snouffer School Road, at approximately 5:05 p.m. Monday, July 9 by a 21-year-old female who told police she was at the lake behind Hadley Farms community pool when she was attacked by an unknown male. Members of the Hadley Farms community were stunned by the incident, with some saying it was the first in nearly 20 years.
