Germantown Math Professor Will Receive Proclamation From Council

Montgomery County Council on Tuesday will honor John Hamman, chairman of the math department at Montgomery College’s Germantown campus.

Montgomery County Council will recognize the achievements of John Hamman, chairman of the math department at Montgomery College’s Germantown campus, who was named 2012 Maryland Professor of the Year. Councilwoman Valerie Ervin, D-Dist. 5, is expected to present the honor at the start of the Council’s regularly scheduled meeting in Rockville. Hamman earned the Teacher of the Year award from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Patch has reported. It is the fourth consecutive year that a Montgomery College professor has been named Professor of the Year.  Music professor Dawn Avery received the honor in 2011. Math Professer at Germantown Campus Named Professor of the Year

Recipient was John Hamman, chairman of the math department at Montgomery College’s Germantown campus

A math professor from Montgomery College’s Germantown campus has been named Maryland Professor of the Year, college officials announced Thursday. John Hamman, chairman of the math department, received the award from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). In 2009, Hamman helped was a leading developer a self-paced, computer-based approach for a developmental math class at the Germantown campus. The redesigned course, which was adopted at all Montgomery College’s three campuses, impacts 2,000 to 3,000 students each semester, the college said in a press release.
