The next drawing is set for Saturday night.
The jackpot for Saturday's Powerball drawing has climbed to $214 million after Wednesday's drawing failed to produce a winner, lottery officials report. The Maryland Lottery reported its 15th consecutive year of sales growth, helped along by interest from the $656 million jackpot in March.
A record-setting Mega Millions jackpot helped pace the Maryland Lottery to a record of its own, with the agency reporting a 4.7 percent increase in sales over the previous fiscal year. The lottery said Monday that figures from fiscal year 2012 showed the 15th consecutive year of sales growth, despite greater competition from casinos and a dearth of new retail outlets. The lottery generated $1.795 billion in sales during fiscal year 2012, up $80.4 million from the year prior. Those sales translated into $556 million into Maryland’s general fund and $1.066 billion in prizes awarded to players. Alas, his payout has fewer zeroes than Saturday night's big winner.
While Baltimore County is garnering attention for the sale of one of three winners in the $640 million Mega Millions Jackpot, a 26-year-old Germantown resident won $250,000 in Tuesday's drawing, the Maryland Lottery says. The lottery says the unnamed IT consultant was drawn to the Mega Millions because of the rising jackpot and decided to buy the first lottery tickets he's ever purchased at the 7-Eleven at 19786 Crystal Rock Drive. One of three tickets in Saturday night's record-breaking jackpot was sold at the 7-Eleven store in the 8000 block of Liberty Road in Milford Mill, The Baltimore Sun reported. Other winning tickets were sold in Illinois and Kansas. Carole Everett, director of communications for the Maryland Lottery, told …

The winning numbers will be announced on Wednesday night.
The concept is simple. Pick five black numbers and one red number. Pay a dollar. Tens of thousands of Powerball lottery tickets will be sold across Maryland and millions more around the U.S. this week in advance of Wednesday night’s drawing. The current jackpot for the multi-state lottery is estimated at $173 million. Maryland State Lottery Agency has no official ticket sales estimates for this drawing. Sales data indicates that 478,613 Powerball tickets were sold throughout the state in a $20 million jackpot last month. And as the jackpot gets higher, people …
