A Very Boozy Afternoon: State Senators Vote on Bevy of Wine and Beer Bills

The county's delegation of senators will spend the afternoon discussing where and how businesses can sell beer and wine.

It is unclear what the rules are regarding state legislators drinking on the job, but Thursday afternoon's agenda for the Montgomery County Senate Delegation may be enough to make anyone reach for the nearest glass of vino.  Here's what county senators will be discussing and possibly voting on today: 1) Winery Special Event Permits—Farmers' Markets, sponsored by Del. Graham. The lawmakers cited this summer's derecho and 2011's Hurricane Irene, storms that left Montgomery County with widespread power outages, as reasons for why they're checking up on the company's efforts.  Lawmakers asked Pepco four questions about how the utility will respond to outages from the hurricane. The questions, excerpted from the letter:  1) Will Pepco take appropriate precautions and initiate communications and outreach …

These questions seem awfully open ended, although I realize we don't have the entire letter. Citizens want to see specific actions, milestones and a schedule for achieving these milestones. When will our representatives get down to brass tacks and demand specific goals for PEPcO, instead of these vague requests?   more ›
