Germantown Lawmaker Wants to Raise Maryland’s Minimum Wage to $10

Legislation would raise Maryland’s minimum wage from $7.25 to $10 by 2015

A campaign has been launched to gradually raise Maryland’s minimum wage from $7.25 to $10 by 2015. Maryland Sen. Rob Garagiola, a Democrat from a Germantown, and Prince George’s County lawmaker Del. Aisha N. Braveboy are co-sponsoring legislation and held a rally Tuesday in Annapolis to garner support. The legislation will be introduced in the next two weeks, Garagiola said in a statement released to media. “Maryland workers are in desperate need of a raise,” Garagiola said in the emailed statement. “Our people are working harder but aren’t earning more, and it’s time to give a much needed boost to our economy. Raising the minimum wage would not only put more money in the pockets of these workers but also increase business activity in our …

Bob, This discussion on minimum wage is above you pay grade. Are you serving as Rob Garagiola's mouthpiece? In a democracy, ideas are like flood water; they create their own path... unless someone tries to block them. For best results, go with the flow. By not engaging in the discussion blog he started, Rob Garagiola may think he is on high ground, high and dry. But in a democracy, reluctance to …   more ›

Bartlett, Delaney Take 6th Congressional District Primary

Republican Roscoe Bartlett seeks an 11th term in the 6th Congressional District, while Democrat John Delaney hopes to knock off the incumbent in his first political campaign.

U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, a 20-year veteran of the 6th Congressional District, will return to November’s general election ballot seeking an 11th term. Bartlett, 85, claimed the Republican nomination with 43.8 percent of the vote, more than doubling Maryland State Sen. David Brinkley’s 19.8 percent. “I’m obviously humbled and honored by the vote of confidence people have given me,” Bartlett told Patch. “I’m going to continue to work, work, work and win in November.” Joining the incumbent on the November ballot is Potomac’s John Delaney. The 6th District's Democratic nominee won 54.3 percent of the vote after a contentious campaign against State Sen. Rob Garagiola of Germantown. “We are extremely excited by tonight’s results but we’re going…

Seems, Bob, most of the ones I received @ annoying and inopportune moments were from the John Delaney Headquarters & the Democrats. Hummm! At the rate they (robocalls) were coming, I thought I should be 'going steady' or be engaged to Delaney or at least someone on his staff! Tell him I would like a very large emerald engagement ring. LOL!   more ›

Why I Support Rob Garagiola for Congress

With all the challenges facing our country, it is vitally important we make sure we are represented by someone focused on fighting for the middle class, creating jobs and growing our economy.

As you may know, District 39 is no longer part of Congressman Chris Van Hollen's district. We are now represented by Congressman Roscoe Bartlett. I’ve decided to endorse one of Congressman Bartlett's opponents—Rob Garagiola of Germantown—and am writing to tell you why. With all the challenges facing our country, it is vitally important we make sure we are represented by someone focused on fighting for the middle class, creating jobs and growing our economy. That’s why I’m asking you to join me in supporting State Sen. Rob Garagiola in the April 3rd Democratic Primary. Before serving as a state senator, Rob served our nation in uniform as a Sergeant in the 450th Civil Affairs Battalion and the 150th JAG Detachment. The proud father of three…

He supports a sanctuary state and county policy that has failed us all. Way past time to act. The flood of impoverished people ( legal and illegal) has pushed up the poverty rate and unemployment rate across the nation. Obama Admin has been very slow to act and too eager to pander to special interest groups and those that profit from illegal aliens. Sanctuary counties and cities have paid a high …   more ›

Garagiola Campaign Responds to @FakeGaragiola

Campaign manager calls parody tweets ‘despicable.’

The snarky tweets have been circulating since November, when state Sen. Rob Garagiola announced plans to run for U.S. Congress. But now Garagiola's campaign team says parody tweeter @FakeGaragiola has gone too far. The spoofer described Garagiola as a "smarmy," "philandering lobbyist" with "zero" accomplishments and characterized the lawmaker as a dirty politician, questioning his integrity by making claims about his personal life — infidelity, as of late. The account has amassed more than 100 followers and published more than 50 tweets since Nov. 4, around the time Garagiola (D-District 15) started campaigning for the 6th District congressional seat. Garagiola, 39, of Germantown, declined Patch's request for an interview, but campaign …

Interesting comments. Little did one know that there are those in Montgomery County who are interested in a different viewpoint, than the same old Democratic blather.   more ›
