Suspect Charged in Death of Man Found In Car Trunk Near Shady Grove Metro

A 51-year-old Anne Arundel County man was charged with murder Tuesday in the death of John P. Ryan, whose body was found in the trunk of his car near Shady Grove Metro in December.

A 51-year-old Anne Arundel County man was arrested Tuesday at a New York airport in connection with the killing of a Frederick County man who was found dead in the trunk of his car near the Shady Grove Metro station in December, Maryland State Police announced in a press release. Michael A. Stahlnecker, of the 1700 block of Fallsway Drive in Crofton, is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/violent crime, police said. Police said Stahlnecker killed 37-year-old John P. Ryan of Frederick County in December. Ryan's body was found Dec. 3 in the trunk of his car, which was parked in a parking lot used by …

Super-Size Soda Ban in Montgomery County? Probably Not.

County Health Officer: 'We are not thinking about it'

In an effort to curtail unhealthy drinking habits, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposed a ban on large-size sugary drinks at restaurants, street vendors and movie theaters last week. Could a similar measure make its way to Montgomery County?  "We are not thinking about it," said Dr. Ulder Tillman, health officer for the county. "We plan to observe the experience in New York to see how that goes, so we'll be monitoring that closely." Tillman said limits on the size and concentration of sugary drinks are already in place in county public schools. Students are also not allowed to use vending machines during the school day.  In New York, Bloomberg wants to limit the sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces…
