As you'll find, universities are almost hyper vigilant when it comes to disseminating information about crime reports. This is in response to many campus incidents involving violent crimes in the last few years. The thing that you should really notice is the fact that a lot of these crimes are being reported and resources are being allocated to help make the great College Park area a safer place.
If you got a text message every time Montgomery County police received a report about something being stolen, someone being assaulted, drug or weapons possessions, DUIs, and the like, you'd think it was a dangerous place too. I've lived in some of the best neighborhoods and some of the worst neighborhoods in the DC metro, LA and Bay areas, and College Park is a lot safer than some of the safest neighborhoods elsewhere.
